It’s no secret that STEM fields are a male-dominated world. Even with an increase in programs designed specifically to engage girls, they remain a small part of the overall STEM community. Girls face unique challenges in pursuing STEM projects and careers, and far too often, these systemic challenges end up turning them away from promising opportunities even though it's good for everyone to have more girls in STEM.

As we watched the launch of the space shuttle Endeavour on May 16, 2011, its roar softening as it disappeared from view, we felt overwhelming pride and excitement.

A pair of high school-age sisters have invented the newest item on the astronaut menu. Called STEM bars, they're a nutritious and NASA-certified alternative to standard astronaut fare, and the bars will join both Tang and freeze-dried ice cream on Endeavour's final flight.

Turns out they never stopped charging. They are working together on a startup involving nutrition for nerds called SolarFlare.
